Life was never fair according to Rosemarie Hathaway, the protagonist in Vampire Academy, unfortunately she learns this the hard way. Upon returning to St Vladimir's School for Vampires with her Moroi friend Vasilissa Dragomir, she encounters a guardian instructor named Dimitri Belikov who she happens to fall in love with. This is just a glimpse of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. This supernatural fiction follows the life of a Dhampir girl Rosemarie Hathaway who since birth is destined to grow up and be a guardian for a Moroi. The Moroi she was destined to protect is her best friend Vasilissa Dragomir. Dhampirs are a mix breed of Moroi and human. They were created by Morois who breeded with humans. Morois are full-blooded vampires who have powers to control the elements. Dhampirs were destined to go to school in order to graduate and become guardians for the Morois. Roe believes that she was destined to become the guardian of the Moroi Vasilissa Dramoir who happens to be the last of the Dragomirs. Since Rose and Lissa didn't want to risk being separated after graduation, they decided to run away. But sadly they were caught by school authorities in another part of the country.

My favorite part of the book is when Rose and Demitri are spellbound by a lust charm. The spell distracts them from telling the school principle of the school that her own uncle had captured Lissa. Rose goes straight to Demitri when she feels Lissa’s pain because of the connection she has with Lissa, which influences their assurance of being paired up after graduation. This was my favorite part because the author does a good job of using imagery so the reader can vividly picture what is going on.
I would recommend this series of book to young adolescents and anyone else who enjoys reading supernatural or romantic types of books Those who read this book could possibly relate to Rose protecting her friend, were at the same time wanting to have a normal life. Those who have hard choices in life can understand the theme of this story. Not everything you want is what you need.
