“Wake up for your big brother,” I said. “Wake Up!” In the book I’m reading, these were some of a few words Martin told his brother,Guero, once he saw his brother covered with blood not saying anything anymore, as he stood watching over him. The title of my book is, Brothers In Arms. The author of my book is Paul Langan and Ben Alirez. Paul Langan was born in Philadelphia in 1972.His stories reflect his personal experiences of his life , from the difficulties of growing up without a father and the many challenges students still faced today. Ben Alirez was born in Southern California. He grew up on the tough streets of East Los Angeles and La Puente, California. The authors purpose of this book is to teach teenagers who are in gangs what can happen when you’re hanging out with people that are bad influences. This book is based on a life lesson a teenage guy named Martin Luna learned. He never thought that the people he hung out with would get his little brother killed. The genre of this book is realistic fiction.

My favorite part of the book would be the ending, where he has the chance to get his revenge, on the person who shot his brother. But then he realizes what would happen and the type of problems he would get in. He knew he wouldn’t win anything by killing the guy. His brother was dead and he wasn’t going to come back. He also realizes that it wasn’t his fault his brother got killed. It was all his friends who thought they were family. The bullet was never meant for his brother. It was meant for Martins friend, due to a problem they had. All this time, he thought his family was his friends, they were no help. This book inspires me because it’s something that actually could happen or happend already. This book teaches me to choose my friends wisely and to appreciate the people I have in my life until they’re gone. This book kept me interested from beginning to end and I still re-read it again because it’s crazy what can happen when you hang out with the wrong people and the bad paths they could take you to.

I would recommend this book to my cousin. The reason I would recommend it to him is because I feel like this book would actually make him realize what can happen in his life if he keeps on being with the people that he thinks are his family and continue to lead him on the wrong path instead of the good path.
