What is more important in life, having a brighter future or having material things?
In the short story entitled ’’The Diamond Necklace’’ having a set of jewels are more important than working toward a brighter future. ‘’The Diamond Necklace’’ a short story by Guy Maupassant, examines the life of a woman who thinks that she was nothing compared to other women because she has never had a set of her own jewels to call her own. Guy Maupassant is an author from France who has written over 130 short stories and six novels. The message about life in this realistic fiction is to be responsible for something you have possession of whether it is yours or not.

My favorite part of this short story was when Mrs. Liosel was says she is worthless and her husband was trying to make her feel better. That part of the story reminds me of my life when people are feeling down I try my best to make them feel better. Even though some women know their worth, it doesnt mean that all of them do so I tend to try and be that boost of confidence. The themes of this story revolve around responsibility and being humble. Both of these are important because people tend to work hard to get where they want but yet don’t humble themselves. Responsibility and being humble favor each other.

I would recommend this book to people who need a lesson on being humble and responsible. In my personal life I have seen many people including myself stop being humble after achieving the goals I wanted to achieve. Responsibility is important as well, it is your responsibility to keep a steady hand.
