It’s Kind of a Funny Story is a wonderful realistic fiction tale that had me laughing, crying, and screaming. I read the book at every chance I got, and when I finished it I was sad that it was over.

It’s Kind of a Funny Story is about a high schooler named Craig who battles with depression. The book starts off with Craig talking to his therapist, and as the book goes on he tells about how he got to where he is now. In the beginning of Craig's journey Craig is about to commit suicide after having suicidal thoughts but instead of committing suicide Craig checks himself into the hospital and stays in the psychiatric hospital for five days.

The characters that Craig meets throughout the book are very well written and all have their own set of problems that I find very interesting. The characters also can be very relatable for teens. For example some teens might relate to Aaron who doesn’t really understand depression but as the book goes on Aaron learns more and becomes more caring, and other teens might relate to Craig, who struggles with all the stress school puts on him.

The book also has a few laughs, and talks about problems that real life teens have, which I very much enjoy. The author does a good job of describing how the characters deal with their problems, and how characters may not deal with their problems. There’s also a bit of romance in the book for people who enjoy romance, but not too much romance that the character’s romantic relationship takes over the entire book, which I think is great.

In conclusion It’s Kind of a Funny Story is a great book for teens, and I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
