There will never be a sentence you read when your eyes are not tearing up from making the spontaneous sounds and movements of the face and body that are the instinctive expressions of lively amusement and sometimes also of contempt or derision, also known as a laugh, while reading this book. Laugh after laugh after laugh is what you get from Hyperbole and a Half.
Published October 29, 2013, by Touchstone A Division of Simon & Schuster in New York, Hyperbole and a Half is a combination of a web comic and blog, written by Allie Brosh. It is a book about Brosh’s life, and tells “...Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened...” from her childhood as well as the “challenges” she faces as an adult.
Hyperbole and a Half is not like any other book you will ever read. It's technically non-fiction, but Brosh writes it as if her life is a fictional story. Every chapter there is a new adventure she has to tell about her crazy chaotic life and each story is as fantastic as the first.
For example, she writes a lot about her two dogs and their adventures together. She also wrote about one time when she was four at her grandfather’s birthday party, where there was cake, and she wanted it, but it didn’t turn out too well. Oh, and what do you know? There was a wild goose in her house, too! On a scale from 1- 10, I think this book deserves a 9 on it’s amazingness. Although, this was Brosh's first book she has had experience in writing before on her famous blog that she posts daily on, Hyperbole and a Half, and she got the idea of writing this book from it.
The one thing I thought for the whole period of time I was reading this was, "Who could ever have a life so strange and exotic and fun?" The answer? Allie Brosh. Each chapter with a new eventful tale from her life when she was four up until now, and it is still hilariously amazing. Get ready for some all-nighters when you're reading Hyperbole and a Half, and hope you don't wake up the house with your laughter, because you will definitely LOL.
