Russian Roulette Review

After waiting two years, the long awaited tenth book in the Alex Rider Series Russian Roulette is here! Russian Roulette is unlike any other Alex Rider novel in the series. This novel is about a young Russian boy by the name of Yassem Gregorovich. This young man becomes homeless, after the death of his parents in a nuclear disaster, and eventually becomes a contract killer. Knowing that the series is slowing coming to an end I knew this novel would be an action packed thriller.

The author, Anthony Horowitz begins by explaining Yassen’s early childhood in a small village called Estrov located in Russia. Biological weapons were produced in this village. His parents are tangled up in the mess by their discovery of anthrax. An accident occurs at the plant that spreads the anthrax into the air. The Russian Government decides to terminate the whole village by sending in helicopters with missiles. Yassen also known as Yasha escapes by the help of an antidote given by his parents. Traveling to Moscow he becomes a thief and eventually a servant to a billionaire. Yasha later escapes and joins Scorpia. Scorpia is a terrorist organization that employees and trains only the best killers in the world. People hire Scorpia to kill anyone in the world for a large sum of money.

Anthony Horowitz does a superb job in allowing readers to escape from our world and become absorbed into the world of “Yassen Gregorovitch.” The artistry and detail is unlike any other high-octane young adult novel. Constantly on the edge and the urge to keep reading makes Russian Roulette the perfect book if you like guns, weapons and non-stop action!
