Kathi Appelt’s, The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp was a wonderful book that could put a smile on any face. I highly recommend this book for people who love adventures, the environment and just want some humor to help make them happy. Two raccoons Bingo and J’miah are made out to be the cutest creatures that take you on all their journeys while doing stupid funny things that we all did growing up. This book was very easy to connect with because as a kid I loved to go outside and use my imagination and just explore.

The two raccoon Scouts Bingo and J’miah have the biggest love for each other and end up going through every adventure together. Kathi Appelt personifies these two raccoons giving them almost human aspects in the way they communicate and live. Their parents act like humans in the way that they tuck them in at night and would read them bed time stories to help them sleep. Escaping from realism the two raccoons live in an old DeSoto car that was left in the swamp. The car will get struck by lighting every storm and with this bolt of electricity the radio and all the lights in the car would turn on. The car would come back to life and the raccoon scouts would listen to the radio for information. Bingo and J’miah then would use this as there job and became information officers and would tell the swamp the information the car told them.

This book is a very pleasing read that involves humor to put a smile on your face. This book is easy to follow and is written very well. The story switches off chapters between the raccoons views and Chaps views with the restaurant and everything. I was quickly able to find out the message of the book while enjoying the humorous aspects withe the two raccoons. Appelt made this book very appealing capturing readers by making them happy by reading a cute funny fantasy. Bingo and J’maih were personified so well that after reading the book you would want them as pets and to just go on adventures with them.
