Book Review: Divergent
It hit number one in the U.S. for weeks. It was on the front cover of the New York Times. It is the favorite book for a countless number of people, and recently favorite movie as well. Many would ask, “Could this be the third book of the world famous ‘Hunger Games’ series?” While the Hunger Games series was popular and loved, it is a little less than incomparable to the shocking new Teen Sci-Fi book known as Divergent.
Divergent. When you first hear the name what would you think of? A horror movie? A novel in your Lit class? I can tell you right now that whatever you are thinking is probably incorrect. The events and characters of this series are amazing and completely unpredictable. This book is mainly a sci-fi futuristic type of novel but the part that really stands out to me is the women’s power.
The main character, Tris, is part a fearless faction who are daring and crazy. Part of her initiation to get into this group (Dauntless) is to conquer her fears. One of her most prominent fears is of sexual abuse. In her fear landscape, she is attacked by one of her trainers. This scene may have started out horrific, but it went uphill real fast. Tris fights off her attacker and escapes quickly. This part of the book stands out to me, and I think anybody else who has read this book and seen this movie, because of all of the people who do need that inspiration in their life. To stand up for themselves in a bad situation is more than inspiring.
Aside from the dramatic parts, this book is also a great mix of humor, action, and love. I would highly recommend this to anybody. Boys, girls, adults and teens this book is the best book for anybody and everybody.
