The book, "Wintergirls" is a story about Lia Overbrook and her emotional journey to find a different perspective on her life and the world. The book was published in 2009 by Laurie Halse Anderson. When Lia loses her best friend, Cassie, she becomes emotionally unstable to the point where she gets hallucinations. Lia’s parents are concerned about her, while she’s just concerned about her weight. This book is a rollercoaster full of emotions and its bound to make you want to keep reading.

Lia is trying to find closure in her friends death by going to the place where she died at, and going to the funeral. And while on trying to do this she meets Elijah, a boy that works at a near by motel. It seems as if when Lia is around Elijah she’s encouraged to eat so he doesn’t worry about her like the rest of her family. When stuff hits the wall Lia goes to Elijah for support, and, they make a deal to leave together. Only that’s not what happens at all. Although I personally dont relate to any of these characters on what's physically going on. I relate on a more emotional level. The things that some of these characters go through make you feel empathy because the book is based on such a realistic issue. My favorite part of the book by far was when (warning:spoiler!)Lia had to go get stitched up because she had cut herself so deep that she was dying; and that Emma witnessed it. It was my favorite part because it seems like it would be such a big deal if it happened to a family in modern day.
I would recommend those to this book if they enjoyed the more darker side of literature. This book personally made me contemplate that it’s not only myself who has issues going on. My favorite character is Emma, Lias little sister. Even though she isn’t that big of a character, Lia cares so much about her that it motivated her to keep on going. Emma is pretty much Lias inspiration. This book is a solid four out of five stars. It was missing a little something, but, other than that it was pretty swell.
