John Green, the writer of the book Looking for Alaska, has won many awards due to his attention grabbing writing. This book was published on March 3, 2005. The main character Miles Halter in tired of living a “safe” life so he goes to boarding school not know what to expect.
Miles has a special talent, as everyone does. His talent is remembering people’s last words. He meets his roommate, Chip Marten or as people call him, “The Colonel.” He's introduced by his roommate to beautiful, mysterious and emotionally confused Alaska Young. The book mostly revolves around Miles and Alaska growing closer together. Throughout the story there are also pranks, bets, and parties.
Green describes a very real situation in this tragedy. I think this is the most believable and grabbing book I have ever read. He also creates different personalities for Miles and different tones in the story.
I would consider Miles my favorite character, for he lives a “safe” life but once he gets to boarding school his life changes. He has a different personality at the end than in the beginning.
Greens work is phenomenal and is worth reading. He has out done himself with his heart touching story. Its powerful language is in the most positive ways that will leave the reader thinking for years.
