While reading the story, Jason & Kyra by Dana Davidson, I noticed a few things about the character Kyra. Kyra reminds me of my sister Shakirah in a few ways. They aren’t so much similar physically; instead they are very common mentally. Just to name a few, the character traits that they share are uniqueness¸ humbleness, and persistency. Both people have positive attitudes and their personality’s speaks for itself. Although they are two entirely different people, their persona links them together.
Just like Kyra, my sister has her own individuality. They both have their own style and don’t care too much about what others think. For instance, in the story, Kyra’s boyfriend describes how she wore her hair in natural braids. Styling hair naturally was not something that was very popular for teenage girls. However Kyra didn’t care. Shakirah is the exact same. She’s Muslim and even though she has to cover up she still dolls up her outfits and styles them in her own way. Not many people do these things that both girls do which is what makes them so different.
Determination is another quality that each of the girls share. Shakirah is a college student and there are definitely times when she struggles and feels like she has to give up. However, she gets right back on her feet after she’s had her downfall. Kyra was dealing with something just like this but only it happened in high school. Kyra signed up for a Science Scholarship contest that not many eleventh graders win. Despite what others thought about her not winning, she worked hard and ended up winning the whole thing. Because these girls were consistent, they achieved what they were working towards even though it was tough.
Along with those two inspirational qualities, Kyra and Shakirah are humble which plays an important role. Being cocky about something is not the right path to take and the character from the story and my sister set that example perfectly. Kyra’s family is rich but unlike the other girls in school she doesn’t show it off because she believes that money can’t buy friendship and that’s exactly what they would do to her. My sister is very intelligent but she doesn’t make it seem like she’s the smartest person in the world. They both are extremely modest which is why they both have great personalities.
Over all, the character Kyra, from Jason & Kyra, resembles my sister Shakirah a lot because they are almost identical internally. Their character traits are very much alike. They are strong-minded, humble, and are certainly one of a kind. Their traits are what make them their own person. Although they have a common personality they are still two distinctive people.
