After ending with a literal cliffhanger in book three Riordan returns for more action in the world of Percy Jackson. After dangling over the the pit to Tartarus Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase fall into literal hell. This hell is completed by resurrecting demons, a river of fire, and a giant named Bob. The doors to death are open, letting monsters return to the mortal world however, Percy wants to change that. On a quest to save the world, the book is filled with monster fights, flying ships, and resurrected hijackers. Demons plague the heroes in their minds as well as their world.

The House of Hades is an intense tale bound to make you keep turning the pages. Riordan does an excellent job of explaining the story in a way anyone can understand and enjoy. While the book is rather long at 583 pages it is still engaging. I enjoyed the mythology and action in this book. Although dark and intense are visible in these pages, heroes find a way to cope with the weight of the world on their shoulders.

I believe Riordan’s books are sometimes overhyped, but The House of Hades meets the expectations. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read Riordan’s books and those who like adventure. Just a warning, once you start you won’t stop.
