For the last few weeks I have been reading Alice In Wonderland, which a one of Lewis Carroll’s many fantasy books that he’s written. I will just come out and say that I thought that is was a terrible, cheesy, boring book. The ending was unoriginal, and seemed like he just wanted the book to be done and over with it. I had trouble reading the book and was not able to enjoy it.


The book was about a girl who follows a rabbit through a hole, and falls down into Wonderland. Alice meets all these animals who act and talk like her and she hears about an evil Queen of Hearts. She also finds food and drinks which when devoured, makes her change size. Alice cares little for the creatures and all she really wants to do is get home, “I am so very tired of being all alone here!” (29). The book also didn’t have much detail written to describe the characters and how they were acting, which was the big thing to me.


I believe the book was absolutely boring. I struggled to read it and regretted even picking the book up because there was nothing to grab my attention. If he talked more about the Mad-Hatter or the Queen Of Hearts it would have been better and easier for me to read. The only true action was in the last chapter which is when Alice starts to get attacked by playing cards, but even then it couldn’t grab my attention because right as it started, it ended. “tried to
beat them off, and found herself lying on the bank, with her head in the lap of her sister” (117). She fought the cards for three seconds and then you find out it was all a dream! I found it a little odd, like he was just trying to find a way to end it.


If I could recommend anything to Lewis Carroll, I would say to have the action be in the middle instead of the end and have more stuff leading up to it. Instead of Alice fighting the cards for three seconds, maybe the Mad-Hatter could come and save her. That maybe she could start the revolution to have the Queen Of Hearts thrown out of power or something like that. Overall, I didn’t like the book and would not recommend it to anyone.
