Maleeka Madison, formal eighth grader at McClenton Middle School, is bullied, threatened, and made fun of every day. She has had enough of this non-sense especially with her new teacher Miss. Saunders. See what she does to make herself stand out without human beings putting in there two cents.

The Skin I’m In by Sharon Flake is an extraordinary book. Literally anybody could relate to this book. Maleeka Madison, the main character of the book, is an African American girl. Maleeka gets bullied at school for wearing the clothes her mother sews for her, as therapy for the passing of her husband, also Maleeka’s father. Maleeka has to change out her needle poking worn out clothes with her so called good friend Charlese. Maleeka has faced being called too black, too poor, and not worthy of being at McClenton Middle School.

The author Sharon G. Flake, states her point that people get bullied everyday no matter what race, ethnicity, or situation. Only few teens or children tell an adult about being bullied. This why it is important to take a stand and stand up for yourself before matters get worse, as in suicidal thoughts and, or actions. I also agree with authors point. Even if you don’t like reading you will not be able to put this book down. This book is literally everyday life of somebody life at your school and everyone has had that one person they were afraid of which is a strength of this book. In this book you will run into some difficult words but you will understand what they mean eventually as you read on. Overall look of this book is that I could read this book over and over again. I recommend this book to anyone because as you read you will relate more and more with Maleeka Madison. This book left me always to remember that I should not let people bring me down anymore and to stand up for myself. I want everyone who is considering reading this book that this book is like a guide of bullying and to always stand up for yourself.
