Dear John by Nicholas Sparks

The book, Dear John, was a love novel written by Nicholas Sparks. The movie was somewhat different and had a little different twist to it. The book focuses more on Johns father and his love story as where the movie focuses more on John love life and his romance with Savannah.
In the book, John describes Savannah as a brunette but in the movie Savannah is a blonde. Savannah and Tim have known each other since they were born and Alan is Tim son not dad as in the movie. They also mention in the movie that John is in the Special Forces in the book they say that he’s in the military. All these changes in the movie change the way the story is written and how I thought it was going to be. In the book John signed up for the military again without really thinking and intakes place away, and writes Savannah a letter telling her what’s happening and the choice he made, and in the movie he had the weekend to think first. He basically decides at Savannah’s parents house. He tells Savannah in person after a guest at the party talks about the war and 911. I enjoyed reading the book because it was descriptive and I pictured something about almost everything I read about, and then I watching the movie and it was super different. When Savannah thinks Johns father has autism, in the book Savannah gave John a book about autism and she tells him that she wants to be a special Ed teacher. In the movie Savannah just mentions that after several days of secretly studying Johns father she comes up with the theory that his father has autism. The coin or the Mule that John finds when he’s a little boy, was found at an ice cream truck and was worth much money as of where the coin is found by John and his father together and that’s how him and dad use the coin in personal meanings. When Tim and Savannah become a couple, the book states that after Tim parents died in the car accident they live in Tims parents house, but in the movie they live him Savannahs family home. One of my favorite parts in the book was when John visits Savannah in college where they have a huge fight, but just the fact that he visits her was super cute and in the movie he doesn’t go and visit her. I was really looking forward that part in the movie because I thought it was so cute in the book. In the book, Tim and Savannah grew up together, were the same age, was never married and had no kids. In the movie, Tim was an older guy, was a creepy neighbor, had one kid, and was once married. One thing that really caught my attention was that in the book, they say that Tim has melanoma but in the movie Tim has lymphoma. All these differences changed the way I liked the book. While reading the book, I fell in love with it and how the author wrote it, then I watched the movie and it was completely different and not how I imagined it. I prefer the book to the movie because I feel that the book makes more sense. Don’t get me wrong, I like the movie, but it’s not as good as the book.
