Ender’s Game

Ender’s Game is action packed, but the thing that I like about it is the theme behind it all. “It doesn’t matter it you win. It’s how you win that matters.” That’s what I got from the movie and the book. The book and movie are similar in many ways, but they are also some differences. Ender is a young 10-year-old boy that is prestige in academics, but in they movie it seemed like he was 13 years old. When Ender finds out that he has to take out his monitor, he is not devastated, but also not happy. Every kid gets the monitor. The monitor is a tracking device in the back of your neck. The monitor gives UEG access to almost all of your five senses. So they can see, hear, and feel everything you see, hear, and feel. Ender was walking out of the health room he dumped into a boy named Stilson. Stilson was enraged because Ender beat him at a stupid war game. In the end of the fight Stilson was on the floor and Ender was still kicking him, even when he was down. Ender told Stilson’s Posey that Stilson is an example of how the rest of the fights will turn out to be. Ender winning.
Ender went home to Valentine. Valentine is his older sister. She is very compassionate toward Ender and that is the reason why she got her monitor taken away. She likes to protect Ender from their big brother Peter. Peter got his monitor taken out because they thought he was quick to violence. Ender talks to Valentine about his day all the time, Ender said that when he was kicking Stilson in the gut that he felt like Peter and he also talked about the monitor. Peter was mad at him because they took out Ender’s monitor. Peter thought that he should’ve had his monitor in longer. Peter wanted to kill Ender, so they played Astronauts and Buggers. Peter was the astronaut and Ender was the bugger. Peter started choking Ender when they started playing the game. Valentine stopped Peter.

Cornel Graff came to the Wiggin’s house to take Ender. Ender goes with Cornel Graff and Commander Anderson. When he starts to launch he makes a friend, Bean. Bean is a small little boy. He is smarted then the older kids. Well that’s how it played out in the movie, but they did that so they can short the movie because Bean is an important character in the book. Ender was supposed to meet Bean when he got his own army to command. Another event they changed during the launch was when Ender a launchy named Bernard get into a fight. Ender was supposed to break Bernard’s arm, but they had to shorten the movie so that it was only 2 hours.

Ender got to Battle School and was introduced to Cornel Dap. He was going to command the launchies for now. The launchies was also introduced to the battle room, where they will train and learn formations. While Ender was getting used to the battle school, he started playing a mind game. In the mind game Ender was a mouse. He met a giant and to get to the fairyland Ender would have to pick the nontoxic cup. Ender ended up killing the giant because both cups were poison. During the movie Cornel Graff and Commander Anderson was watching Ender play the game. They saw that he had traits of Peter and Valentine. Ender saw a bug looking thing. The creature then turned into Valentine. After he saw Valentine he turned the game off.

Ender was transferred from launchies to a real army, Salamander. Banzo commands salamander. He is very strict with battle formation. He wants everything done perfect. When Ender came, Banzo didn’t really like the idea of having a launchy in his “perfect” army. During the time that he is in Salamander, the only girl in the army, Petra, is training him. Banzo found out about Petra training Ender. Banzo didn’t like the facted that Ender was getting too comfortable in his army.

Ender then gets the news that he will be getting his own army to command. Everyday Ender has them training, right at the crack of dawn. The army’s first battle was against two armies at the same time. One of the armies was Salamander. The army made the cubes into a wall. The wall was blocking the formation of the other time. Ender has a great plan of defeating the armies. He makes a barrier around one of the members and all they have to do is get to the other side with out that person, that is being protected, getting hit. Ender defeats Salamander. Banzo is furious.

After the battle Ender takes a show. Banzo is still mad at Ender for beating him, so the got at it and then Ender pushes Banzo and Banzo slips. Then he hits his head on the tiled floor. In the movie it didn’t say if he died or not, but in the book it says that Banzo did die.

Ender then gets the news that he is going to commander school. Ender requests that he go back to earth and see Valentine. Cornel Graff goes with Ender. Ender meets Valenitne at a lake. Ender and Valentine talk about what has happened between the time he has left to now. Ender was talking most of the time. Valentine and Ender say their goodbyes and Ender tells her that they will not see each other for a very long time. Once Ender said goodbye to Valentine, he took a rocket to Commander school with Cornel Graff. When Ender got there he rested first. The next he got into the simulator. He was put through test with his old team, Dragon. Ender was happy that he got his army.

At the end, Ender had a final that he had to take. There were more people watching him. Ender did the same formation they did against the two armies. It worked out perfectly. Ender passed, but at what cost.

My personal opinion is I like the movie better, but it would also be better as a 6 hour movie too. The book was long but I enjoyed the description the author gave, but the movie was better. I’m not much of a read. I’m a movie fanatic.
