Monster Nation

By David Wellington

The story is about a infectious virus that spreads rapidly across the country, causing everybody to mutate into cannibal like animals. As the infection dragged on, the fight for survival gets tougher minute by minute, which includes running from the government, and running from the animals that lost all human remorse. Nilla is one of the main characters in the story, that actually died in the very beginning, but is walking around as a infected, but Nilla is special. She is the only infected that can control her hunger. Commander Clark is the other main character in the story. His main focus is to eliminate the infection, at all costs, and is looking for someone that may know the answer. That person, is the same person that is running from the government. Nilla.

I would give this story a 3.5 out of 5 because the main plot of the story is finding a cure for the infection. A couple major events that support this is at the very beginning. Commander Clark heard about the infection, while he was at a prison, overrun with infected. During this part, Clark admitted he wanted to find NIlla, but he had no name. He had a description of her, that wasn't much of help because it was in Las Vegas. The main theme in the story is Survival, based on how well humans adapt to the new environment that can occur. The human mind is one of the most powerful things in the universe, and it shouldn't be squandered over by evil mistakes made by individuals, or unintelligent choices. It should be cherished, because you never know what could happen. Monster Nation is more than a zombie novel. Its a book of explaining street smarts.
