Game Changers Playmakers
By Mike Lupica
4 stars out of 5
The book Game Changers Playmakers is by Mike Lupica. He has written many books that are sports related. Such as “Summer Ball” and “Batboy” and many other award winning books. His books are New York Times bestsellers, and also he is a sports analyst.
The book is a fiction book mainly for teens, especially in middle school. It takes place during present day in the fall. The main characters are Ben, Sam, Lily, and Chase. There are also other characters, but not as important, such as Ben’s parents, the Ram’s basketball team and coach.
They are all in middle school, and they just came off of a very exciting football season where they won the championship. Now it’s time for basketball. Ben is thinking that he is the best point guard in the league, but there is a kid, Chase who is even better than ben. They played each other first, and Chase’s team won. Ben was frustrated with himself, so he went outside and played basketball with Sam, his friend on his team. While playing Sam got injured, a high ankle sprain, and can’t play for the rest of the season.
Since Sam couldn’t play the Rams didn’t have too good of a season, but an average one. And Ben was getting so caught up with Chase that he wasn’t having fun. Then Lily asked if Ben wanted to go to the movies with her and Ben. He did but got really mad and walked out. Then a couple days later they played each other, and with the same result.
Despite their bad season, the Rams still had a chance to make the championship game. They needed one team to lose, and they needed to beat Chase’s team. So Ben’s whole team went to watch the game, hoping for it to go their way. And sure enough Chase’s team showed up, and it didn’t go Ben’s way, but he really wanted to beat Chase and try to salvage something from the whole season. They got to the game and during warm ups, the door flew open…
I really liked this book, mainly because I like sports. I don’t think this book is for everyone, but for many people. This book is the second book in the series, and I didn’t read the first book, but this book still made sense.
