BOMB by Steve Sheinkin is a fantastic, non-fiction novel that tells the story of how the atomic bomb was made and forever changed our world. Any sucker for history books will absolutely love reading this book and will certainly have a hard time taking their eyes off of it. It is also filled with action, so any action-packed readers will find this spy-filled novel very entertaining. BOMB without a doubt is a non-fiction story people will want to read. This work will be everlasting throughout time in regard to its significance. It deals with one of the most important issues, the atomic bomb, that completely re-wrote the rules of warfare and humanity as a whole. BOMB also enters the discussion of past thinkers of the sciences and humanities in relation to the new discovery in physics in order to make the atomic bomb. Although not in a very good way, it also gave a new definition to “humane” warfare. This book may seem boring to some since it is a non-fiction novel and has a lot to do with science, but it is still very important and relevant to everyday life today. I did very much enjoy the unraveling of how the most destructive weapon in history was made; however it was not very consistent. The story is told through 4 separate but sort of related parts and within those separate parts it is told by many different view points which may throw a lot of readers off. I know I certainly got lost in where I was and who was talking for a chapter or two. It sort of changes the normal structure and flow of a book, at least in my opinion. Instead of looking at all the negatives of the book’s structure, I would rather applaud how Steve Sheinkin fit all the pieces together perfectly. In view of the fact that the story does shift through different parts and perspectives, it sets up plot twists and character changes. They almost become expected and I know I could not wait to find out what was to happen next in the story. The characters develop throughout the chapters of this novel excellently. All the questions that one may have when reading this book are answered or solved eventually once the pieces come together. The plot flows marvelously and it is extremely suspenseful towards the end of the book. Some readers may be stressed or frustrated as I was while reading the first couple of chapters, but rest assured, it all comes together slowly and beautifully for a very thrilling and interesting read. I high recommend BOMB to any history buffs or non-fiction lovers. I also recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting story that actually played a big role in changing the world through warfare and politics.
