For my book review, I chose the book Sports Great: Patrick Ewing; written by Jack Kavanagh. The genre is non-fiction, specifically sports and the copyright date is 1992.

This book was not just a book full of statistics and facts that proved how great of a basketball player Patrick Ewing was. This book included many stories and background information to Ewing’s life. The bottom line is yes; I would recommend this book to middle school students. However I will say that boys will find this book much more interesting than girls, unless they play basketball. This book does include many great stories in it too so anybody looking for a simply good book to read should read this as well.

Like I said before, this book includes lots of stories about Ewing’s life. There are stories about his best games in the NBA too. For example, on Christmas day in 1985 Patrick Ewing led the Knicks to a victory over the Celtics with 32 points to snap their losing streak (11). Another example is the story of the year 1983 when Ewing won the Most Valuable Player award (20). In addition to stories about his life in the NBA, this book tells much about Ewing’s life growing up. He was born in Jamaica and as he got older he reached an astounding size of 7 feet tall and 240 pounds (2). Ewing’s life involved a lot of traveling so the book talks about what it was like for him in different places. Overall I thought this was a very informational and good book that any middle school athlete, student, or plain out reader should look at.
