As I turned the first page of this book, I realized it wouldn’t be as I expected it to be. I had to choose an independent non-fiction reading book for my English class in senior year, and I came across a 15 year old girl’s diary. I believed it would be the typical book that tries to teach teenagers about drugs and how they destroy your life, but I never expected the words of this young girl to impact me as it did.

As she is introduced into the rollercoaster world of drugs, her life changes from an instant to another. Her one, and only unconditional companion is her diary. This lets the reader be introduced into a never ending addiction that can turn and innocent confused girl into a nightmare of her own.

Now I finally understand why “Go Ask Alice” was prohibited at some schools. I didn’t sleep the night I read it and I am sure other readers didn’t as well.

Every human being should have a taste of what she lived every day and see how something, that started as game, can ultimately “fix” your life by completely destroying it.

The young writer wrote, “I have this very silly fear, dear friend, that one day I’ll be old, without ever having really been young. I wonder if it could happen that quickly or if I’ve ruined my life already.”, and to uncover that fear, that every single soul on Earth has at least once experienced,”Go ask Alice”, the book that will never leave my shelves.
