Like Sister’s on the Homefront is a drama filled book about a fourteen year old mother name Gayle who gets sent down to the South by her mother. She must learn how to live with her rich and sophisticated relatives including cousin Cookie, Aunt Ruth, Uncle Luther, and her wise Grandmother Great. Gayle doesn’t really seem to adapt to their classy & sophisticated lifestyle. She especially can’t adapt to her goody two shoes cousin Cookie. She’s too sweet, too clingy, and likes to act like a know it all. Gayle’s family wants to help her out with baby Jose, but Gayle doesn’t want any of that. She thinks she can take care of her baby all by herself even though she really does need a little of assistance.

On the way Gayle learns that maybe her classy family actually isn’t all that bad. She realizes they only want to help her get her life together because they care about her. Cookie surprised Gayle the most. She turns in to a more daring young woman like Gayle, and learns to take more chances instead of being an outcast. Gayle hopes that this work out for the best and that her perspective of them was wrong.
