Mockingjay
By:Suzanne Collin
Is freedom worth fighting for?The people of Panem thinks so. In Mockingjay I felt that Suzanne Collins left at place they should have been continued. The book was not as amazing is the other two books. Although it this is the last installment of the series it felt like the story was just beginning, and they needed to go more in depth after the resolution. But Mockingjay was not as action packed as I would have anticipated.

Katniss Everdeen is soon awaken from the hurtful deception of Haymitch. Katniss is not only physically hurt, but emotionally disabled. She now feels nothing. She has lost not only Peeta but many of the other tributes. Then Katniss must become the “Mockingjay”. She has to act as the face of freedom. She has to choose whether to stay independent or fall victim to President Coin. I feel that Suzanne spent too much time for the beginning and her becoming the “Mockingjay”. She also has no real character development in this book, she does not go through any real change. Yet I still felt that it was okay that she went through no change because if they changed her personality, then the series would have been extremely different.

The book seem to be going through the motion. It was like yeah I’m fighting for my country. Katniss faces no near death experiences that kept you on the edge of your seat. Like in the previous books Catching Fire and Hunger Games she was almost always about to die. Which gave you that thrill that kept you hooked to the book. But in Mockingjay all they did was was hideout from the Capitol. There was no suspense in the story. Also there was too many things going on too handle. Like there was too many little conflicts going on. That is was actually complicated to read.

We really do not see much from any other characters beside who is on Katniss’ special squad. Gale finally get some type of time to talk in the story. He awaits the momentous decision of Katniss’ love for him or not. But Peeta who is mentally ill cannot be excluded from the equation. Although, he merely wants to kill Katniss which could get in there way of love. In the midst of all of this Katniss is grieving for her loss of one of her family members.

Suzanne Collins wrote all three of the books in Katniss’ point of view. I feel by writing in her point of view took away from developing/ understanding some of the characters. Like you never get to see what Peeta feels. What he is going. What is going through inside his mind and what lies have the Capitol told them. If they gave some opinion from other characters then it would have made the book more realistic and more detailed for better understanding.

In the end a decision is made. One that is extremely hypocritical to one they are fighting for. But did they choose the right decision. If they say they are just like President Snow. But alas they fall victim to the horrible decision. There was a big disagreement of whether or not they should have another Hunger Games. But all the victors must decide. And it all comes down to Haymitch. He chooses the Hypocritical decision.

In conclusion Mockingjay was nothing like the previous Hunger game book. But yet it was still quite original. There was potential for so much more but Suzanne Collins was just not up to par with this book. Will the book stand the test of time. No. But if you have already read the other two books then you still have to read this.
