The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Spear is a wonderful book that is a perfect book for young adults that takes you back to the old days of the Connecticut Colony and follows the life of Kit Tyler through her journey to a new life.
Kit Tyler is a 16 year old girl from Barbados who has to leave her home after the death of her beloved grandfather to live with her aunt, uncle, and two cousins in the colony of Connecticut. This book will follow Kit overseas to her new home which takes a little getting used to because of the new way of life that she must adjust to. After a while in the colony Kit begins to be more accepted and make new friends, but after Kit begins to start to befriend a woman Hannah Tupper who has been shunned by the colony because of her religion and because she was believed to be a witch. Kit had no idea and after the aristocrat of the town Mrs. Cruff begins to spread rumors that Kit is becoming a witch will she be safe anymore and she will have to rely on her new friends and family to help her to prove her supposed innocence.
This book will have you engrossed into every page and full of suspense and plot twists that will have you on the edge of your seat trying to predict what will happen to Kit and her new family. It is an amazing piece of work that was awarded the Newberry Award and I must say it was well deserved in my opinion and is worth reading over and over again.
Like I said in the beginning this book will take you away and drop you in the middle of Kits world and story as if you where her and fighting her battles as if your faced with the same struggles yourself. This book is should be on everyone’s summer book list it will not be one you will be able to put down for a minute.
