Undaunted Courage; Meriwether?Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West by Stephen E. Ambrose is the most exciting nonfiction book that I have ever read. This is a book about a hero. It is also a book about a national unity. But at the same time it is a tragedy. The author’s purpose is to teach us about the history of America. He definitely achieved his purpose. I learned so much about the outstanding country of America. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in America's history. I give this book 5 stars and I am writing this review to tell everyone how wonderful America's history can be.

Undaunted Courage is a comprehensive account of the Lewis and Clark expedition that was exhaustively researched and written by Stephen Ambrose. Stephen E. Ambrose is an amazing author. He is also the author of D-Day and multiple biographies of Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. This book is the most momentous expedition in American history and one of the great adventure stories of all time. On 22 September 1806, Lewis and Clark completed the last leg of their epic journey through the Louisiana Territory. The expedition covered eight thousand miles over a twenty-eight month period-an accomplishment Meriwether Lewis had to be proud of. This book covers America's history from 1774-1809.

"Of courage undaunted, possessing a firmness & perservance of purpose which nothing but impossibilities could divert from its direction, careful as a father of those committed to his charge" this is just part of what Thomas Jefferson Had to say Lewis and other historical figures had said. Most of them are even spelled wrong. I thought that I had about Meriwether Lewis. Stephen Ambrose actually included the exact things that Meriwether learned everything in history classes but this book includes so many interesting things that they never taught us.

It is definitely a 5 star book. I love writing this review and I hope that you will consider reading it for yourself. If you want to learn about Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, The Lewis and Clark expedition, or any of America's history you should read this book. This book is very descriptive and very lengthy, at 474 pages. It is a wonderful book and a must read for anyone interested in American history.
