Uprising is a tale woven from tendrils of smoky memories from times long past and emotions still strong. This novel is a winding puzzle of life and loss, and the heart-wrenching tale of death, sacrifice, and devotion to one’s cause.

The theme “never give up” is found throughout Uprising in the three main characters’ commitment to a cause and their refusal to stop trying, despite dangerous circumstances. Even when death looms, they fight for their rights and the rights of all workers in the shirtwaist factories of the 1900s.

This book was impossible to put down. The prose sucks the reader in, and the story, with flowing details, keeps the reader hypnotized in the amazing tale of three young women caught in the fire that shocked America, changing it forever.

I definitely recommend Uprising to anyone who loves history and wishes they could have been there to experience it. If you read this book, I guarantee that you’ll never look at history the same way again

Hey i am kinda in a crunch right now. do you think you could tell me a few important points to add in my book report about Uprising. i am trying to reaad it right now but i only have a few days and i know i cant finish it by then. PLEASE HELP ME!!

I just finished this book today. It was absolutely wonderful, bitterly funny, compelling, tragic and hopeful at the same time. I nearly cried when the police were sobbing with the girls and helping them. It's sad that the Fire did take so many lives not so long ago. This is a must read! I thought I would absolutely hate Jane, but Haddix surprised me.

Heh, I totally saw the Bella and Rocco thing. :D He's so sweet.

I LOVE Margaret Peterson Haddix, but somehow that title only rings a faint bell. I've read all the Shadow Children books, (a while ago) Double Identity, Found, Part of Turnabout (until I was disturbed), and most of Running out of time. I just bought The House On the gulf, and I really want to read Escape From Memory, Sent, and Claim to Fame. And now you've opened my eyes to a new book I want to read!! Nice Job!!

Bella is the one who survives in the end, aka "Mrs. Livingston," and marries Rocco Luciano, or Rocco Livingston since he was adopted later. Pietro contacts Bella once again later, sending her a letter asking how she's doing and inviting him to his wedding.

I read this book over the summer. It was one of my all time favorites. Margaret Peterson Haddix is my favorite author and I am especially fond of her shadow children series.

I thought that I would hate this book actually....but after i read it i thought it was wonderful. I literally cried because this book was just so powerful, and the deaths were so tragic! I also really fell in love with the main characters so they seemed like my very own family that was lost but i was just glad that there was something good that happened!
