I recently read Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard and it was excellent. While it was not the best book I have read, it was interesting and I would recommend it. Realm Breaker is a fantasy book told through seven different character points of view. This is very enjoyable because you can see from both the protagonists’ and villains’ viewpoints, and how they are thinking through things. In particular, I found that the multiple different characters' points of view helped me understand the story better. I also loved seeing how the characters reacted to everything. 

The book had an amazing plot. It is about saving the world from being destroyed by a descendant of Cor blood. A descendant of Cor blood is someone who can not stay still and always wants to move around such as Corayne, the main character. Corayne an-Amarat, is a seventeen year old girl who has to shoulder the responsibility of saving the world. Her mom never let her travel, but when an Elder (as they are called by humans) and an assassin came to get her from her hometown, she was convinced to go with them to save the world. Corayne grew up in Lemarta, which is a port city. Because Lemarta is a port city with people who speak different languages coming and going, she knows how to bribe, barter, and talk with people in different languages–which is helpful later in the book–and how to get information from people. Dom, the Elder, and Sarn, the assassin, had to locate her in her hometown because she didn’t know that she could help save the world. 

 After being convinced to go with Dom and Sarn, they travel with a few other people to save the Spindles, which are walkways into other worlds. The villains used a Cor blood sword to open them so Corayne had to close them. They also had to deal with a betrayal, which was very surprising and made the book more interesting. 

The book did take some time for me to get into because of the changing characters’ points of view and having to remember where each character left off. There was also a lot of world building in the beginning of the book, which I find prevents me from getting quickly hooked. The world building took forever to finish because the world is so big and the group is always moving to different towns, cities, or  kingdoms that have to be developed. These can be a lot to keep track of; but, ultimately I loved it. Samantha Shannon wrote a review on Good Reads saying, “A gripping quest fantasy, set in a very well-constructed and richly layered world, led by characters I loved.” Shannon explains the world building well because it is very richly layered due to the different characters and words. While it took time for me to get hooked, the development is also why I loved the book.

 I also appreciated the  villain romance story that is building. It is very slow burning in Realm Breaker, like Aveyards’ other series, Red Queen, but I am enjoying it so far. It was unexpected, which made it more intriguing. I suggest that everyone who loves a good world building, fantasy world with multiple points of view, saving the world, and a slow burn villain romance read this book.
