The book Copper Sun, by Sharon M. Draper, is a historical fiction novel where 15-year old Amari had her village raided one day and lost everyone she loved, her family, friends, and the man she was to be wed to. She was one of the very few survivors that got shipped to Charleston, South Carolina to be sold. Amari was sold to a man named Mr. Derby who is known for his large rice plantation. With not a lot of time Amari, takes a long and dangerous journey to be free.

This book has to be my favorite book because it has many different events that keep the story going, make it very interesting and the character never gave up even when things were hard. I loved how Draper had a great viewpoint and even though she wasn't present during that time, she still had a clear understanding. This book has lots of character development and the characters are changing throughout the book. While reading this book, at points I thought it was very sad but at other points it was happy. I would recommend this book to anyone who is above 8th grade and is interested in historical books.
