15-year old Stephen Quinn is forced to navigate a destroyed world full of plague and war. The book The Eleventh Plague, by Jeff Hirsch, is an exciting, action-filled, and moving science fiction story. This book is about a dystopian society and how the world has changed over time due to the evolution of a deadly plague. This plague, called P-11, has separated society into many different groups, all with different ideas and ways to live. These differing ideas between the various towns are causes for the many struggles in this book. There are pranks, small attacks, and even all out wars between our protagonist and neighboring societies. In the book, Stephen steps up as one of the crucial parts set out to win the war. With the lessons from his grandpa, he devises strategies so that his town can hopefully go back to its semi-normal life. 

Jeff Hirsch is a wonderful author who perfectly captured the setting of this post-apocalyptic world. We can see the genius of his writing through the many dynamic characters shown throughout the story. Hirsch shows us how Stephen grows up, using an inside look at his thoughts about the current world and his ache for the past, as well as the future. This book always had surprises that kept the story interesting. From beginning to end, this story kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next. The contents of this book are a little more mature, so I would recommend this book to anyone who likes science fiction with a darker twist. However, I would not recommend this book to young kids due to some disturbing scenes. This was a great book and one of my new all-time favorites.
