The book Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli, is about a girl named Stargirl, a new student at her school.   This novel was set in modern time.  The author, Jerry Spinelli has won many awards, including the book Maniac Magee where he won the Newberry Medal.  Stargirl is a fearless and thoughtful student who is a cheerleader.  She is not afraid to do anything to help her team win.    The protagonist of this novel was Stargirl because of how many problems she faced and the times she was mentioned.  Another main character, Leo is very loving and forgiving.  One example of a person vs person conflict is when Stargirl was cheerleading for her school’s basketball team.  She was cheering for both teams, not just hers.   In this realistic fiction novel, you will learn how Stargirl deals with problems and relationships

Overall, the novel Stargirl was a great book.  It had me hooked from the beginning and there was always something happening.  I think Jerry Spinelli’s word choice was outstanding.  For instance, on page four, Jerry Spinelli said, “She wore an off-white dress so long it covered her shoes. It had ruffles around the neck and cuffs and looked like it could have been her great-grandmother’s wedding gown.  Her hair was the color of sand. It fell to her shoulders” Another thing that I thought really stood out was some of the falling action events.  For example, Leo and Stargirl’s relationship.  This book would be best for ages 11-14 because there are some complex words that you may have never heard before.
