Amidst bizarre environments, compelling characters, corrupt leaders, love stories, and even rabid dogs, Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games is one of the most page-turning and action-packed novels I have ever read. The conflict is constant and entertaining, with a distinct plot that separates it from other novels. I would say that The Hunger Games is out of my usual genre when it comes to my novel preference, yet it would be a book that I would gladly place next to my all-time favorites.

If you're interested in action with a little twist of romance this book is for you! The Hunger Games tells a great futuristic story with a poor teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen as the main character. The Hunger Games is a huge event hosted by The Capitol after the huge war   that they won against the Districts. Since the defeat The Capitol hosts The Hunger Games every year which is  a very groomsmen game of people killing each other for entertainment and sport.  In the book there is a reaping event held every year which is when tributes are chosen to take place in The Hunger Games, unfortunately the story starts off with Katniss's younger sister Prim being chosen to take place in the deadly game, so brave Katniss steps up and takes her place.  Katniss has to leave behind her family and her boyfriend to fight for her life. Another boy is chosen as well  named Peeta Mellark and as the story progresses you watch the fall and uprise of these too young adults. This story isn’t just about action and fighting but also has some really dark emotion and romance that keeps you hooked in. The plot thickens when you slowly learn that Peeta and Katniss might actually have some chemistry which is a huge nail biter and makes you want to know what will happen at home with her boyfriend.

The Hunger Games is a new personal favorite of mine that I would with no doubt recommend. This book gives great examples of what bravery really means and shows  what it would feel like to have some that would truly die for you.  As an example in the story as the characters are in the game they meet some friends along the way that are dreading being there just as much as Katniss and Peeta.  The two characters don’t only protect each other but people they barely know out of the goodness in their hearts. Personally while reading I loved the compassion they showed towards this young girl named Rue from district 11 who quickly became allies with Katniss and Peeta.  Not only does the book show compassion, bravery , kindness, loyalty, and love but it makes you as a person want to have these qualities.

If you want to expand your reading style and jump into some fun fiction I would totally recommend this book.  Personally I'm not the type of person who likes to read about people dying or killings but this story brought me into a new light and showed me to expand my taste.  The Hunger Games is the type of book that is hard to set down and makes you yearn for more, not only is it an amazing book but there's incredible movies that I would recommend to watch after you read the series as well. In conclusion The Hunger Games is an outstanding read that teaches you amazing values and shows both romance and action in one.
