Let's be honest here, who likes to read nowadays. I mean, I'm the type of person that hates reading books. I dislike it a lot. I would rather sleep with every single living tarantula than read a whole book. Yup, that's how much I hate reading books. But the book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie changed all of that. This book is so interesting. I would read this book again anytime. When I was reading this book it put me through so many different emotions. I felt as if  I was on an emotional roller coaster. One second I was smiling, and the next second  I was crying, then  I was laughing. This book kept me so entertained. I enjoy and appreciate that a lot.

The book The Absolutely True  Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexi is about a native-Indian teenage boy named Arnold Spirit but goes by the name Junior. He lives on a reservation with his extremely poor family,  an extremely poor community in an extremely poor town called Wellpinit. Junior gets bullied a lot because of his brain disorder and how he looks. One day,  Junior's teacher from the reservation, Mr. P brings it to Junior's attention that everyone from the reservation stays in the reservation. Mr. P told Junior that he must take his hope and go somewhere else with it. A place where other people have hope: off the reservation. For Junior to find hope he needs to leave the reservation. Junior then leaves the reservation to an all-white school called Reardan, which is 22 miles away from the reservation. By  Junior leaving the reservation, he risks losing his tribe, his best friend Rowdy, and his family. When Junior goes to Reardan, his whole life changes. He meets new people that help him get through the ups and downs in his life. He loses a lot of his loved ones. He became a stronger person. And lastly, he learned a lot of lessons.

There was one thing about this whole book that made me fall in love with it. Do you think you could guess what it is? Nah, I'm just going to tell you. “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is semi-autobiographical. The novel started as a section of Sherman Alexie's family memoir, but after the persistence of a young adult editor, he decided to use it as a basis for his first young adult novel.”Once I found out that this book was based on a true story, it drove me nuts. Not literally, but you know what I mean. It's crazy how someone went through all that Junior went through. When I was reading the book I had no clue that the book was based on a true story because of how incredible and unbelievable this book truly  is.

One quote that I connect with from the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is, “ do you understand how amazing it is to hear that from an adult, do you know how amazing that is to hear that from anybody. It's one of the simplest sentences in the world. Just four words whether they are the four biggest words in the world when they are put together. you can do it.” I connect to the quote because it’s extremely inspirational. And I also feel that if anyone tells me, “you could do it”, I have more strength and more power, and it makes me believe that I could do anything. I don’t know what it is, but it’s different when I tell myself that I could do it and when someone else tells me that I could do it.

The three main themes of the book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian are revenge, forgiveness, and confessions. I say this because that’s the central plot of the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I feel like throughout the book revenge, forgiveness and confession are the most important things that are either hard for the character to do or not hard at all for the characters.

Lastly, the lesson in my own opinion of the book,  The  Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, is that it doesn’t matter how or where you start from, it matters where you end. I say this because Junior started at a spot where you would think no one can get out of. And even with all of the ups and downs that went on throughout his life, he continued to make a change and try to fix/change his life. It's crazy how he started as a poor kid at the reservations that goes through so many horrible things to now a book writer/author.

Finally, the quote from the song started from the bottom from Drake is true. The quote is, “Started from the bottom, now we're here.” This quote speaks for Junior.

In conclusion, I recommend everyone to read the book,  The Absolutely Diary of a  Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. I love this book so much, It introduces the real world to people. I love how the main character Junior always makes a joke, out of heartbreaking or hard situations to go through. Teens and adults should read this book. This book would take your breath away, please take my advice and just read this book, you won’t regret it.
