Imagine a story that mixes the themes of survival, and determination and puts them into one book, then you have the book Endangered, by Eliot Schrefer. This realistic fiction book really hooks the reader in immediately by introducing you to the main characters and then getting into the first main point of the book. The book is about a girl named Sophie who is in the Congo and befriends a bonobo, an ape that is also known as the pygmy chimpanzee, she decides to name him Otto. It is mostly about how Sophie and Otto have to fend for themselves in the wild. Meanwhile, there are bonobo hunters and dangerous bonobos.

I personally thought that the book was great and intriguing, and I’m not the biggest fan of reading. What I think Schrefer did well was how he explained what was going on throughout the entire book. The last thing I like is how he added person vs nature and person vs person conflicts. The reason I think he made the conflict this was to hook the reader by making it more realistic. I think that people who like books that get you hooked right away and like realistic fiction type books should read Endangered.
