The book The Martian by Andy Weir starts off with the Ares 3 mission on Mars. They get news from NASA that there is a huge sandstorm about to hit them and is thought to last multiple days on Mars. The Ares 3 group then has to evacuate from their mission early. During the evacuation, the sandstorm begins, and everyone but Mark Watney makes it on the spaceship and evacuated safely. Mark Watney is then stuck on Mars by himself and has to find creative ways to keep himself alive like planting and growing potatoes on Mars soil, saving his oxygen and making more oxygen, and creating energy with many different elements.
NASA has satellites take pictures of Mars, and they notice that objects around the Hav have moved and NASA has came to the conclusion that Mark Watney is still alive. Mark then finds a way to talk with NASA, and they discuss and plan to bring him back home alive. The Ares 3 mission the finds out that Mark is still alive and they go back to Mars and try to rescue Mark, but the rescue mission doesn’t go exactly as planned.
I learned that there are many different and difficult outcomes that can happen to many different problems when there are different scientific aspects added to another. I also learned how these outcomes can sometimes be very fatal if you're not cautious and careful about what you do, and how precise you have to be with many of these problems. This book tells the details about a lot of different things and deals heavily with emotions like anger, struggle, and joy when Mark is stuck on Mars. This book also deals with a lot with factual things and scientific terms and equations. The book also tells us how certain things can happen when you have the right or wrong scientific terms and equations. I love the book because it’s telling us about how difficult a mission to Mars would be and all of the different things that could possibly happen and go wrong to anyone, and how the mission could go great and have no problems, or possibly go terribly wrong and have a countless amount of problems. I also love this book because it deals with all of his thoughts, and the difficulties and hardships that he goes through while alone on Mars. For these reason I would highly recommend this book.
