The House on Mango street by Sandra Cisneros is a charming novel about an adolescent Mexican girl named Esperanza. It explores different aspects of what it’s like to be welcomed into the world of woman hood. Like sexuality, body changes, mental changes, the feelings of being judged and along all this being a feminist. It is worth reading in my opinion, because of all of this.

Esperanza lives on Mango street with her family members Carlos,Kiki,Nenny, and her parents. Her family dealing with plumbing problems when the landlord didn’t want to fix it. When the family moved to a new apartment with no landlord. Esperanza had a passion for writing and telling stories. Her dream was to be a writer and live an independent life. She ends up making new friends in her neighborhood such as Cathy, Lucy, and Rachel. Esperanza is insecure about her name because of the meaning behind it. Her whole entire life she had been sad. Her dream was to own a big White House with a nice bathroom because in the beginning she wasn’t fortunate to have a decent one. Esperanza ends up still living on Mango street as time passes and she starts to mature. As she gets older her emotions leave her because of the mindset she has. In my opinion I really love this book (story) because I love the way Esperanza tells the story and everything she ever wanted that’s what I want when I grow older to be independent and I’ve always wanted to be a writer too.

Some teens can relate to this. Esperanza tells the story in a great way. No one else can do the work she has done. It is her life, and by telling it she has inspired others.
