“The House on Mango Street” written by Sandra Cisneros a sensational story of a young Latin American girl growing up in the slums Chicago.  I recommend this story to readers above the age of eleven it show the changes we go through growing up. This story can be confusing at times as it also tells others life stories progressing through the main story of Esperanza.  Esperanza as the narrator and the protagonist of the story tells her life changing story through others life stories.

                   “The House on Mango Street” shows how Esperanza is maturing and learning how to be a responsible adult going through many problems in the story.  Esperanza is not the only person who goes through problems in the story, her neighbors go through many problems as well which made the story more interesting like when Marin’s aunt wants to send her back to her parents for being a handful ( chapter eleven,  page twenty seven ). There are very memorable parts of the story that make it very dramatic and interesting, one of the most memorable parts for me was when Marin meets a mysterious man who passes away shortly after an hour of meeting him ( chapter twenty five, page sixty five ).

                    In conclusion, I think the story is pretty great and educational showing how people change in different parts of society and showing how people aren’t different from each other when growing up.  I would recommend this story to readers looking for a story that paints vivid picture of problems in life and in society.
