Never able to understand herself and who she has become Laine Moreno is broken ever since her abduction 10 years ago. Not knowing how to cope with her feelings everything makes it worse when she finds out who went missing next. Olivia Shaw her daughter she gave up for adoption is now missing. As she recalls Laine Moreno states “Whoever stole me stole Ella was never found. But in the last Ten years, there hasn’t been another girl. And now there is” (Laurin 11).  A teen pregnant by her abductor and scarred for life 10 years after has to relive her past to help the case of Olivia Shaw before it’s too late.

One thing the author did well in this book was the realization and being able to feel Laine Moreno feelings. One thing that really spoke out to me was getting to see how much this horrible incident affected her and how in real life people go through this. The characterization of this book was very strong and you ended up knowing so much about their feelings and emotions. Also you got to see what internally the characters were struggling with. One quote she stated that was impactful was “I’ve barely been able to leave a mark on my own life” (Laurin 136).

The overall theme of this book was very insightful, and a lot of people that have never gotten in these situations can learn from this. It showed how broken somebody can be, but still have to pursue and maintain a daily life trying to forget the hurt they have gone through. Another good factor about this book was how there was an antagonist but it didn’t go into detail with specific things about him. When you read it you saw the things he had did to Laine Moreno and how inhumanly they were because of the negative impact he had left on her after those years expressed through her.

Girl Last Seen would be a great book for people who like mystery and thriller books, but also people who want to read about real world situations. This book can impact a lot of people’s lives when they read it. It will show them the hurt people go through and how bad it will affect them later on in life because they will never be the same person after these situations.
