Paper towns is about Quentin Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman, Quentin who thinks he is in love with Margo the mystery girl. Neighbors and old best friends Margo and Quentin find each other after nine years in Quentin’s room sneaking out after Margo gets into an argument with her parents. One night Q and Margo get revenge on people who have done them wrong and after that night Margo goes missing. For Margo’s parents, it was not the first time that she had run away “This would be what is it, Josh, the fourth time?” (Green 101).

While Q and his friends look for clues leading them to find Margo they come across many and arguments and disagreements along the way. John Green throws in comedy while telling the readers how Q feels and his struggles along the way. Q’s friends felt empathy for him because they knew that in the end, he was going to be disappointed to find that Margo didn’t want to be found. Still, Q and his friends are determined to find Margo, so determined that they skip their high school graduation to go on a 19 hour ride before Margo is scheduled to leave New York.

When Margo calls Orlando a Paper Town it gives off the impression that she is not happy there and does not like living there because she describes a paper town as fake. She refers to Orlando as a town where everything is made to fall apart and nothing is perfect, she also refers to the people as paper “All those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the future to stay warm (Green 57).

Paper Towns shows how love overpowers teenagers and makes them do things they would not usually do. While seeing what thoughts go through Q’s head we can also see how he handles them. The plot structure was fairly easy to follow, there were no scenarios compiled into one chapter, for the most part, each chapter consisted of something different. Paper Towns has more mature level reading because it deals with more serious topics like suicide and mature language but I recommend it for teenagers that like episodic and mysterious stories dealing with love.
