Summary: The Alienist takes place in 1800’s. The main character John Moore was brought into a secret gory investigation of serial killing by his friend an Alienist (phycologist) Dr.Laszlo. Sara Howard also collaborates with them in the investigation. The killings all have a link and they try to find the serial killer. They find out lots about the killers past as they continue in the investigation to find out who the killer is.

My book was really good and I liked lots of things about it. I like horror books, and I like mystery books. So this book was perfect. I like the imagery, and I like the characters. The way that they describe things makes you feel like you’re right there with them. I think the thing that really made me interested in the book would have to be the imagery. The thing I didn’t like about my book was some of the complexity of the plot while it was a great plot it was full of twist and turns that were hard to keep up with at times. It’s easy to get lost and not know what’s going on which brings me to my favorite character John Moore is one of my favorite characters because I feel like without him I would be lost. Another of my favorite character is Sara. I love how she was really motivated and devoted to be the first female investigator, and I love how she’s really cool.I think things they could have done to improve the book would be to make things less complicated. Since this book has I series I started to watch it. I like the show, and I like the book.

Two quotes that I think go with the element and tie into this book is “Such philosophy was bound to collide with Kreilzler’s developing belief in what he called the theory that every man's actions are very decisive extent influenced by his early experiences”(Carr 46). and  “There was evidence in the bodies not of the murderer’s derangement but of his sanity”(Carr 126). I think these quotes fit really well into the book. I overall would recommend my book to someone who likes gore, someone who is interested in mystery, and someone who is interested in the story of serial killers.
