If you like a good book that will leave you wondering, then If I Stay is for you. It is has a love story, teenage life, a great friendship, and a great story behind the entire novel. This novel is Young-Adult Fiction. The main character, Mia, has a snow day and her family plans on spending it at her grandparents, but there’s a turn of events and they don’t make it to her grandparents house. As Mia is trying to take in everything that is happening she must decide whether she wants to stay and live her life or leave the world for good. While this is all happening her boyfriend, Adam, is trying to get into the hospital to see Mia but the security and nurses won’t let that happen, so he tries to figure out way to get in and see her.

Mia has flashbacks a lot through her journey and one of her first flashbacks was meeting Adam for the first time and going on their first date.  “When Adam showed up in a sharkskin suit and Creepers (an ensemble that wholly impressed Dad), I realized that this really was a date. Of course, Adam would choose to dress up for the symphony and a 1960s sharkskin suit could’ve just been his cool take on formal, but I knew there was more to it than that.” I like this quote because you get a feel of  Forman’s writing and it shows how Mia was unsure of what to wear and that she made the right decision.

After reading this book you will have many emotions and questions stirring in your head. You’ll feel happy and sometimes sad, you’ll also feel some pain and agony. Each event, story and flashback are descriptive enough you can picture them. Forman makes you want to read more and figure out what is going to happen.

I would recommend it to anyone who is 14 and older or to someone who has read Everything, Everything or Fault In Our Stars. These books are very similar to If I Stay. It is a great read and it will leave you wondering what will happen next. This book has a unique writing style. Gayle Forman wrote it as flashbacks and present time. All the flashbacks are important to Mia’s decision. Will you find out what Mia’s chose or be left wondering?
