Snapchat is a new type of social media that has become popular over the years. Many people including me use the app daily and enjoy it. With an estimated 700 million photos and videos being sent everyday it’s not a secret that this app gets used a lot. The way the app works is you either take a photo or video and you can send it to your friends. The pictures and videos do have a timer though so once you’ve opened the picture or video and the timer runs out, it’s gone. A lot of people see this app as a popular way of sexting. The company has clearly stated that the app isn’t sexting-friendly because of it’s many young users the pornographic images could end up in teens hands. This was a problem for Snapchat as the use of the app for sexting was increasing in the U.S. This is a very serious matter because if minors are caught doing something like that, law enforcement can get involved. On November 14, 2013 10 young boys aged 13 to 15 were arrested on child pornography charges so this has been a serious issue for the app. This is a problem for Snapchat but for people who use it as a way to communicate with friends it’s a great app. The app has also been constantly updated for performance enhancements and for new features. Snapcash was a feature that was added where you can send money to your friends directly from the app. A new feature that I find to be super fun is the lenses. These lenses add special effects to your photos and videos and make taking selfies a lot of fun. Snapchat is a lot of peoples favourite way to communicate and I’m happy that I use the app daily as it is truly a great app.
