The Miley Cyrus concert was a controversial topic even before the tour started. Rumors of Miley’s concert being too inappropriate, and parents having to leave early to protect their children have been rampant. Pictures were released instantly of Miley seeming to be doing very inappropriate actions on stage. These images went viral and gave the Bangerz tour a bad reputation. I had to see it for myself.

I went to Miley’s Phoenix tour date at Comerica theater. Immediately upon arrival I noticed that the audience was dressed very differently from the audiences at her previous shows. Looking around, I saw many people with very little clothing on. The merchandise was quite unusual too. Not only did she sell scandalous pictures of herself on posters, and t-shirts of her face, but she also sold drug paraphernalia. At this point I was worried about what was to come at this concert because my mom and little sister were going to be in attendance with me.

The opening acts, Sky Ferrera and Icona Pop, were light hearted and fun, and definitely got the crowd pumped up for Miley. When the concert began a giant Miley head appeared from the back of the stage and Miley slid down to the stage on a slide that looked like her tongue. She was wearing a bedazzled leotard and she was draped in Chanel. Miley sang live, and would even stop to talk to the audience or began to laugh during the songs. This sounds annoying, but it made her seem real and I really enjoyed seeing that side of her. Miley sang her entire Bangerz album, along with a few covers, and a few songs from her Hannah Montana days. Many of Miley’s normal hip- hop/pop songs were given a more country flare which made me realize that she is still the same person she used to be. Miley never changed, she just came out of hiding and decided to be herself.

Overall, I loved this concert. It is one of the best concerts I have attended, and my mom and sister agreed. Miley is so inspirational for not allowing anyone to change her, and we should all respect her for that whether or not we agree with her actions.
