Blue Lake
The lake is deeper than my eyes can see,
the water glints with sunlight like a jewel,
and there’s no other place that I would be
on this day that’s so windy, soft, and cool.
A paddle breaks the surface of the lake.
The water scatters all around the boat,
small rivulets diffusing in its wake.
The wind unfurls its sails like a crushed note.
I gaze upon these marvels from the shore.
If I could claim such solemn majesty,
in all my life, I’d never ask for more.
My failure fails to be a tragedy.
Though I can’t equal what’s beyond this shelf,
at least I can cling to the lake herself.
