Christmas Sonnet
The first snowfall on an empty parking lot
The detailed flakes in the lights
Gifts or grandeur and gifts of thought
Not one unhappy sight.
The smell of perfume and over-sprayed cologne
The warmth of the indoors
The look of everybody on their phones
The sound of boots on the floors.
Big winter coats, scarves, and gloves
Sparkles, curls, and red lipstick
Thinking of chestnuts and turtle doves
And impatiently waiting for Old St. Nick.
I love every gift, I love every moment
Christmas is best celebrated in the present.
