Autumn
An auspicious celebration
Of anonymity and time
I know not who I'm meant to be
Or whether spindled twine
Enwraps the crooked highways
Of these fading leaves of mine
For the vibrancy of chiller days
We mourn for where we've been
Forgetting where we ought to go
And remembering again
The memories of greener leaves
And the breathing, living, wind
They fall from bark and mourning dew
Descend to rest
And lie with me
The earth's decay of my grave beneath
As deep as the Autumn eye
Can see
Beneath the ground
That toils and turns
For death and consequence
And me.
