Battles of the Heart
I watch him make his way across the room,
Anticipating our eyes will soon meet.
He will never notice me, I assume.
I’m like a fighter who won’t bear defeat.
Why do I love him so much, you may ask?
He brightens my world with his golden smile.
I find myself hiding behind a mask,
Yet envision us walking down the aisle.
Obsession keeps me comp’ny, I admit.
I’ve held it in long, I cannot refrain.
This tiresome torture, can I just quit?
That’s it. I can no longer stand the pain.
And just when I thought we’d never unite,
He sweetly kissed my cheek, and it felt right.
