The determined look upon his tan face
Wearing a bold black hat with white letters
Ready if needed to protect first base
Knowing the team in front might be better

Standing on the mound looking at home plate
The first pitch decides how the game will start
How he handles pressure might choose his fate
Knowing with every play he must be smart

In life baseball was all he cared about
It was a privilege to wear the uniform
If the loss of a game left him in doubt
His spirit lifted after he performed

My father had fun playing on the field
Once over a new world was revealed
