I Would
I’d carry all your burdens
so your back won’t break.
I’d forgive all of your sins,
your cruel words of bitter hate.
I’d take not just a bullet –
but a thousand shots for you.
I’d fall apart, bit by bit,
just to help you through.
I’d scramble through the dark
to make a path that’s clear.
I’d sacrifice my heart
so you’d never shed a tear.
I’d burn down a whole city
to make your sad eyes shine.
I’d take years of shame and pity
to give you a second try.
I’d stay up until the morning light
to make sure that you’re safe.
I’d never sleep another night
if it’d keep harm away.
I’d slit my wrists and let them bleed
if only for a smile.
I’d give up everything I need
to give you sunshine for a while.
