The Doorman's Pain
In, and out
Forevermore
Never pouts,
Opens the door
Always smiles,
Taking disgrace
Ev’ry while,
Someone who’s great
On, and on,
Content visage
As he dons
His fake facade
But one day, he shall take no more,
Smiling as God opens the Door

A sonnet depicting a doorman’s suffering, as he opens the door and smiles for all who enter his building. Treated poorly, with a scarce “thanks” every now and then, he daydreams of God being the one to open the door for him, as he had his whole life for others. Following an ABABCDCDEFEFBB rhyme-scheme, with an alternating meter of three beats, four beats, concluded with an iambic pentameter for the couplet.
I chose this poem as the start of the Spring Collection, because it is not necessarily optimistic and bright as the Spring season is, but rather more dark/hopeful as Winter reaches its end.
