Camping
Life, like the fire we gaze while we camp
Flares up and calms down
Starts to die when the wood gets damp
Yet it can never drown
Love is in the air around the fire
It fuels it, like oxygen
Breath it acquires
Life is the fire we breathe in
I am merely an ember
In a wide world of flames
If only I could remember
What of my tree remains
Look up at the stars
This life is so bizarre

This is one of the three sonnets I wrote about camping at Lake McConaughy for my creative writing class. This poem is about how I feel when I go camping. Camping gives me time to really think about life, especially around campfires when no one else is talking.
